Danjuma Goje, former governor of Gombe State, has dismissed speculation that he plans to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections, reaffirming his loyalty to the party.
Gatekeepers News reports that speaking on Saturday in Gombe, Goje, a founding member of the APC, urged his supporters to remain committed to the party and cooperate with its leadership.
“I have not defected to any political party. As a founding member of the APC, I remain a member of the party. Given my years of service and the positions I have held in the country, it would be inappropriate for me, at this stage of my life, to decamp to another party simply to contest for the senate,” he said.
“However, it would have been a different ball game if I were contesting for a higher position. Therefore, I am urging all my supporters across Gombe and beyond to cooperate with our leaders and remain loyal to the party. This is our house. We built it, and we will continue to work for its success.”
Goje also reflected on his nearly 45 years in active politics, saying he had contested elections eight times since the Second Republic and won each time.
He served as a member of the Gombe State House of Assembly, two-term governor of the state, minister and senator.
The former governor said he announced his retirement from active politics in 2019 but returned to contest the 2023 senatorial election following pressure from his supporters.
Goje, who currently represents Gombe Central in the Senate, also assured his supporters that he would continue his empowerment programmes regardless of whether he returns to the Senate.
He is among the serving senators who will not return to the Senate on the APC platform in 2027.
