Department of State Services (DSS) is set to ask the Federal High Court in Abuja to adjourn the trial of Omoyele Sowore until after the 2027 general elections.
Gatekeepers News reports that the decision followed a meeting involving DSS Director-General Tosin Ajayi, the agency’s counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, and officials of its legal directorate.
A source familiar with the matter said Ajayi directed the legal team to seek an adjournment, citing the need to allow Sowore, who is the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, to participate fully in the 2027 election campaign.
The source said the DSS considered that the case had already been before the court for nearly a year and that postponing proceedings for several more months would not significantly affect the case.
The agency is expected to present its position when the court resumes from its annual vacation on September 14.
Sowore is facing charges over social media posts in which he described President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.” The DSS had initially asked him to delete the posts but later approached the court after he refused.
Sowore pleaded not guilty to the amended charges and was granted bail.
The development comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections already underway.
