The Kano-Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it has generated ₦88.92 billion in revenue so far in 2026, representing a significant increase from the ₦63.07 billion recorded in the first half of the year.
Gatekeepers News reports that Umar Adamu, deputy comptroller of customs in charge of the command, disclosed this on Friday at a press briefing held at the Customs House in Bompai, Kano.
Adamu said the command’s revenue collection rose from ₦63.07 billion at the end of June to ₦88.92 billion year-to-date.
He added that July 2026 recorded the highest monthly revenue collection in the command’s history, with more than ₦14 billion generated during the month.
Beyond revenue generation, Adamu said the command had intensified its enforcement operations to curb smuggling and other violations of Nigeria’s customs laws.
Among the items intercepted or detained were 1,491 cartons of foreign spaghetti, 2,928 packs of foreign macaroni, 35 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 19 bags of expired foreign rice, 3,000 jerry cans of foreign vegetable oil and 514 cartons of assorted soaps.
The command also intercepted eight suspected diverted transit truck heads and seven smuggled vehicles, with a combined duty-paid value running into hundreds of millions of naira.
In the pharmaceutical sector, Customs intercepted 712,690 tablets of unregistered medicines, as well as 17,470 vials and ampoules.
Adamu said the pharmaceutical products had been handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for further action.
The command also reported the interception of 48 endangered wildlife species on August 25, including 15 primates such as chimpanzees, gorillas and bush babies, as well as four wild cats, including civets and caracals.
Adamu said the seizures demonstrated the command’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s economy, public health, national security and the environment while enforcing the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.
