Nigeria’s D’Tigress have been eliminated from the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup after losing all three of their Group B matches in Berlin, Germany.
Gatekeepers News reports that Rena Wakama-led side’s campaign ended on Monday with a heavy 111-56 defeat to France, their third consecutive loss at the tournament.
D’Tigress began their campaign with an 81-99 loss to South Korea on September 4 before falling to Hungary in their second group game. They then suffered their heaviest defeat against France, trailing 31-13 after the first quarter and 65-26 at halftime.
The three defeats left Nigeria at the bottom of Group B and ended their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages. The result also fell well short of the team’s historic quarter-final finish at the 2018 World Cup in Tenerife, Spain.
The disappointing World Cup comes after a strong period for D’Tigress, who won their fifth consecutive Women’s Afrobasket title in 2025, becoming the first team to achieve the feat. That triumph secured Nigeria’s automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
The 2026 tournament is being held in Berlin from September 4 to 13.
