The Borno State Government on Tuesday assured of it’s intention to promote and preserve the rich Kanem- Borno cultural heritage through the production and distribution of books that will expose pupils and students to the history, traditions, values and cultural identity of the people.
Gatekeepers News reports that the initiative is aimed at ensuring that younger generations understand and appreciate the cultural heritage of the people of Kanem- Borno , while encouraging the documentation and preservation of traditions that have been passed down through generations.
Dr. Hassan Zanna Boguma, Special Adviser to the Borno State Governor on Culture, disclosed this during the presentation of a new book in Maiduguri, the state capital, chronicling the activities and outcomes of the biennial Kanem-Borno Summit.
The new book written in French language and titled “Les sommets Kanem Bornou: vers une unité retrouvée et un destin commun. That translates The Kanem Borno Summits: Toward renewed unity and a sheared destiny.” Will soon be translated in English language and distributed to schools in Borno State , the special adviser said .
‘ It is the intention of the government of Prof Babagana Umara Zulum to promote culture in education ” adding that ” more schoolar are also advised to write books to will ensure the presavtion of the rich history will particularl reference to the Kanuri language which is facing extinction ” Hon Zanna said.
The author of the book, Aboubakar Nour said he was inspired to write the 459 page book following convergence of kanem- Borno people from different countries attending the Kanem- Borno Cultural Summit in Maiduguri.
Nour revealed that his book ” offers a brief historical overview of Kanem-Bornu, tracing the major stages of its history, its political and cultural heritage, and the legacy that continues to connect its peoples.
“Second, it narrates the Kanem-Bornu Summit, examining its significance as an initiative for dialogue, reconciliation, cooperation and the strengthening of historical ties.
“Third, the book questions the challenges we face today. It looks beyond our shared history to examine our contemporary realities, our divisions, our common challenges and the obstacles standing in the way of a stronger and more united future.
” Finally, the book proposes solutions. It does not seek merely to describe our problems; it invites us to reflect on practical avenues for rebuilding trust, strengthening cooperation, preserving our common heritage and working toward a shared destiny “
