Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published its final list of candidates for the January 2027 presidential election, with 18 political parties fielding candidates for the contest.
Gatekeepers News reports that the list, titled “Presidential and National Assembly Elections for Jan, 2027 – Presidential Final List of Candidates,” was signed by Rose Oriaran-Anthony, INEC secretary.
Among the major contenders are President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC).
Tinubu is seeking re-election with Vice-President Kashim Shettima as his running mate, while Atiku is paired with former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi.
Obi, who is contesting under the NDC, will have former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate. Sowore is paired with Haruna Magashi.
Other candidates on the list include Rufai Omo-Aje of the Action Alliance, Abbas-Bin Aliyu of the Action Democratic Party, Yusuf Kabiru of the Allied Peoples Party and Seyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement.
Adenuga Sunday of the Boot Party, Adebisi Olusoji of the Democratic Leadership Alliance, Sunday Okereke of the Labour Party, Ada Okwori of the National Democratic Party and Nkem Okereke of the National Rescue Movement are also listed.
Former Lagos State governor Donald Duke is the candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party, while Adewole Adebayo is representing the Social Democratic Party. Peter Agada of the Young Progressives Party and Daniel Nwanyanwu of the Zenith Labour Party complete the list.
The commission’s document also contains the ages, genders and academic qualifications of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
The presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while governorship and state House of Assembly elections will take place on February 6, 2027.
The publication of the final list formally sets the stage for the presidential contest, with Tinubu, Atiku, Obi and other candidates expected to begin or intensify their campaigns ahead of the election.
