Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the 2027 National Assembly elections, ahead of the polls scheduled for January 16, 2027.
Gatekeepers News reports that the list covers candidates contesting seats in the Senate and House of Representatives across the country. The commission has also published the final list of presidential candidates for the 2027 election.
The final National Assembly list contains the names of candidates, their political parties, constituencies, ages, gender and educational qualifications. The House of Representatives list was signed by Rose Oriaran-Anthony, INEC secretary.
The publication follows INEC’s earlier announcement that it would release the final list of presidential and National Assembly candidates on September 12, after completing the processes required under the Electoral Act.
The 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on January 16, while governorship and state House of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
Among the presidential candidates included in INEC’s final list are Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC).
The publication provides voters and other stakeholders with the official details of candidates cleared to contest the National Assembly elections.
INEC’s final list comes after the commission had earlier displayed provisional candidate information to allow political parties and members of the public to raise objections or make claims where necessary. The commission has also released the final list of governorship candidates for the February 2027 elections.
The release marks another major step in preparations for the 2027 general elections, with political parties now expected to intensify their campaigns ahead of the January polls.
