Veteran Nigerian actor and film executive, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.

Gatekeepers News reports that Jacobs’ death was announced on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, by his family. His son, Olusoji Jacobs, shared the announcement on Instagram, while his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, also confirmed the development. 

In the family’s announcement, Jacobs was described as the “Lion of Lufodo.” The family expressed gratitude for his life and asked the public to respect their privacy at the time. 

Born on July 11, 1942, Jacobs built a career that spanned British theatre and television, international films and Nollywood. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before appearing in several British television productions and international films. 

After returning to Nigeria, he became one of the prominent figures in the country’s film industry, appearing in numerous Nollywood productions. He also worked with Joke Silva through the Lufodo Group and its performing arts academy. 

His death comes after years in which reports about his supposed passing had circulated and were previously debunked.
