The Allamin Foundation For Peace And Development (ALFOPED) on friday expressed optimism that Federal Government would yield to the calls of people affected by the insurgency and survivors and release detainees arrested by the military since 2011.
Gatekeepers News reports that some persons were arrested by the military with alleged link to Boko Haram Insurgency, but according to Allamin Foundation, its engagements with key stakeholders, including the Borno State Government led by Governor Babagana Zulum, are pointing to a possible breakthrough that could bring a huge sigh of relief to families of the detained persons
This was disclosed by Chief Executive Director of ALFOPED , Hajja Hamsatu Allamin when different groups of women peace builders, representative of religious leaders , security agencies, media and civil society coverage in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital to commemorate the International Day of Peace with the theme : ” Invest in Peace: For Everyone , Everywhere, Every Day .”
The event which was funded by the International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN) and implemented by ALFOPED aims to increase recognition of the contributions of grassroots women peace builders, particularly the Community Women Mediator’s Forum (COMWOMF) Jire Dole Survivor Network ( JDSN) and Women -led Faith -based peace platforms .
While Hajja Hamsatu called for concerted efforts to secure the release of persons in detention, the event with project title ” She Build Peace Campaign 2026″, she states that the event also aims to ensure the creation of a direct dialogue platform between women peacebuilders and key stakeholders, including government officials, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations, and the media, to strengthen collaboration, promote understanding, and advance sustainable peace in Borno State.
We are a network of Women peace builders and we align what we’re doing to the International Peace Day. And the focus now is not about we talking about what we’re doing but allow women peace builders to say what they’ve been doing to bring back peace since the commencement of the insurgency in Borno State.
” I’m very very hopeful (for the release of persons in detention) even as other stakeholders have been responding and especially now that the call is coming from the women who are affected by insurgency and survivors, I’m sure the government will respond appropriately ” Hajja Hamsatu
Allamin said.
Comrade Haja Gana Suleiman and leader network of Victims Mothers called for the immediate release of her son Mustapha Abdulkareem who according to her was arrested by the military since 2011. She also called for the release of the children her members who have been in military detention facility
” I want the Federal Government to release my son and the children of my members . We have been calling for the release of our children in military detention since 2011 but not much has been done. If the Federal Government can forgive Boko Haram fighters who repent, I see no reason why the government should still have our children in detention” Comrade Suleiman said
