Former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed his support for the club following the Premier League’s findings on the long-running financial charges against the English champions.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Premier League confirmed that an independent commission had found Manchester City guilty of 114 of the 115 charges relating to alleged financial breaches and non-cooperation with the league’s investigation.
The charges covered the period from the 2009/10 to 2017/18 seasons, with the investigation becoming public in 2023.
The Premier League had accused the club of providing inaccurate financial information, including allegations concerning its revenues, while also alleging that City failed to cooperate with the investigation.
The case centred on Manchester City’s financial dealings during the period under review, with the league alleging that the club had overstated its revenues by about £900 million.
Guardiola, who managed City from the 2016/17 season until his departure in June, responded to the findings by reaffirming his support for the club, its ownership and staff.
In a post on social media on Wednesday, Guardiola said he remained behind the club despite the outcome of the commission’s proceedings.
“I want every single Manchester City fan across the world to know I am here; more than ever,” he wrote.
“I am, always have been, always will be, behind my club, my owner, my chairman, Ferran, the players, staff, Enzo and you, our unique supporters.”
The 55-year-old former Barcelona manager had previously said he would reconsider his relationship with the club if it emerged that City had misled him about its financial affairs.
However, following the latest development, Guardiola reiterated his commitment to Manchester City and its supporters.
“Let me be clear: we will get through this together. I love you all,” he added.
Guardiola left Manchester City in June after a decade in charge. During his tenure, he guided the club to six Premier League titles, including four consecutive league championships between 2021 and 2024.
He also oversaw significant spending in the transfer market, with City spending about £2.03 billion on 72 players during his time as manager.
