Court Reserves Judgment On El-Rufai’s Bail Appeal

The Court of Appeal in Kaduna has reserved judgment on the bail appeal filed by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Gatekeepers News reports that the court took the decision after hearing arguments from El-Rufai’s counsel, Paul Erokoro, SAN, and counsel for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Ayodeji Adedipe.

Adedipe urged the appellate court to dismiss the appeal, arguing that El-Rufai had previously filed three applications for bail before the Kaduna State High Court, all of which were rejected.

However, Erokoro asked the court to grant his client bail, contending that the offences for which El-Rufai is being held are bailable.

He also argued that El-Rufai’s continued detention was hampering his ability to adequately prepare his defence.

The panel, presided over by Justice Onyekachi Aja Otisi, reserved judgment but did not fix a date for its delivery.
