Lola Akande Presents Credentials To Denmark’s King – Seeks Stronger Bilateral Ties

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Sweden, Lola Akande, has formally commenced her diplomatic assignment in Denmark after presenting her letter of credence to King Frederik X.

Gatekeepers News reports that Akande presented her credentials to the Danish monarch on Thursday, October 8, at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen, Denmark. The ceremony marked the formal beginning of her diplomatic responsibilities in the country. TheCable⁠

During her meeting with the king, Akande conveyed the greetings and best wishes of President Bola Tinubu to the Danish monarch, the royal family, and the government and people of Denmark.

The ambassador reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Denmark and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

She commended King Frederik X for his sustained advocacy for global sustainability and climate action, identifying environmental protection, peace and security, and sustainable development as key areas for deeper cooperation between both countries.

Akande also expressed Nigeria’s readiness to work more closely with the Danish government, business community and other stakeholders to broaden bilateral engagement and advance shared interests.

The presentation of letters of credence is a formal diplomatic procedure through which an ambassador is accredited to a host country. Akande was appointed Nigeria’s ambassador to Sweden in March 2026, with concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Finland and Norway. She is based in Stockholm, Sweden.

She formally assumed her responsibilities in Sweden on September 16, 2026, after presenting her letter of credence to King Carl XVI Gustaf.

Before her diplomatic appointment, Akande served as Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
