United States has cancelled more than 300,000 visas since President Donald Trump began his second term, as his administration expands immigration enforcement.

Gatekeepers News reports that officials cited criminal offences, breaches of visa conditions, false application information and perceived security threats among the reasons for the cancellations.

The report said more than 4,000 revocations were linked to people who engaged in or facilitated so-called birth tourism.

State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott announced the overall figure on Tuesday, saying the administration had “zero tolerance for foreigners here on visas who break the law, commit fraud, or undermine our national security”.

The announcement follows an August update that put revocations at more than 175,000.

Authorities have also expanded scrutiny of visa applicants, including checks on social media activity.

Trump maintains that tougher immigration enforcement is necessary for domestic security. Rights advocates, however, have raised concerns about due process, freedom of expression and discrimination against immigrant communities.
