According to a report by TheCable, citing Reuters, the attackers opened fire on the vehicle, killing eight personnel and destroying the bus.
Lawal Haruna, commandant of the local vigilance group, confirmed that three members of the Zamfara Community Protection Guard were among those killed.
Another member of the group, Abubakar Isa, said the attackers struck near Gidan-Giye village.
The Nigeria Police Force, in a statement by its Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, said tactical search and rescue teams were deployed to locate the missing personnel and recover the bodies of the deceased officers.
The police said seven officers were rescued alive and unhurt, while two others who sustained gunshot wounds were taken to hospital for medical attention.
