Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has sanctioned 66 personnel across its formations nationwide for various offences, including involvement in arms dealing.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Commandant-General of the corps, Ahmed Audi, disclosed this during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Friday.
He said the disciplinary measures included dismissal, compulsory retirement, demotion and warnings, depending on the nature and severity of the offences.
According to him, the sanctions followed investigations into allegations of misconduct against the affected personnel and were approved by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board.
Audi added that some officers involved in serious offences would face prosecution, while others had already been dismissed following prosecution.
He explained that all affected personnel underwent established disciplinary procedures, including orderly room trials and investigations by relevant staff disciplinary committees, before the sanctions were approved.
The Commandant-General said the affected personnel were drawn from state, zonal and area commands, the national headquarters and other formations across the country.
He stressed that the corps would not tolerate indiscipline or actions capable of undermining its professional standards, adding that the exercise was intended to strengthen discipline and deter other personnel from misconduct.
Meanwhile, Audi disclosed that about 17,000 NSCDC personnel had recently been promoted following an examination involving approximately 22,000 officers and men.
He said those promoted met the required performance standards and qualified based on available vacancies approved by the Federal Government.
