Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 119 civilians abducted by terrorists and recovered eight vehicles during an operation along a major road in Borno State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the operation was carried out on Friday, November 6, by troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion, 27 Task Force Brigade, Sector 2, during a surveillance mission along the Dutsen Kura–Bulazarma–Kamuya road.
According to a report by TheCable, citing counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the troops sighted terrorists blocking the road and abducting travellers alongside their vehicles.
The development prompted the mobilisation of the battalion’s Special Forces Quick Reaction Force and another team from the 27 Task Force Brigade headquarters.
The troops reportedly advanced through the Mangari–Dora route, pursued and engaged the attackers, forcing them to abandon the abducted civilians and vehicles.
The rescued victims comprised 69 men, 35 women and 15 children. They were subsequently reunited with their families, while eight vehicles were recovered.
During the withdrawal, the troops also discovered an improvised explosive device around the Bam Buratai Junction–Bulazarma general area.
The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team subsequently secured the location for the safe disposal of the device.
The operation adds to ongoing military efforts to combat insurgency, kidnapping and other security threats in the North-East.
