Minister of Works, David Umahi, has announced that all sections of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway will be completed within 24 months.
Gatekeepers News reports that he made this statement during an inspection of the Abuja-Kaduna section of the highway on Friday.
The Minister was accompanied by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Economy, Wale Edun, who explained that the government had reached an agreement with the contractor of the road, Julius Berger Construction Company, to complete the project within the new timeline.
The contract for the construction of the highway was awarded by President Muhammadu Buhari-led Government in 2018 with an initial completion date of 36 months.
However, due to a lack of funds, the government was unable to complete the project as initially planned. Umahi assured Nigerians of the Government’s commitment to completing the highway on time.
According to Umahi, Julius Berger has agreed to complete 15 kilometers of the road daily, which is why the new timeline was agreed upon.
