Dozens of persons are missing after a boat capsized in River Niger.
Gatekeepers News reports that a boat carrying about a hundred and fifty passengers capsized on Malale River in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The ill-fated boat was heading to Kebbi State when the incident happened at about 3:00 pm on Wednesday.
Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency, Ahmed Inga confirmed the incident, saying: “We have deployed all our men, including local swimmers on rescue missions. They are still searching for the victims.”
Gatekeepers News gathered that five bodies have been recovered so far and 20 other people have been rescued.
Chairman, Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency, Sani Dododo said ten out of the rescued persons are currently receiving treatment in the hospital while 10 others have been discharged.
The rescue mission is still going on at the time of filing this report.
