Jay-Z has confessed he used to forget his lyrics in the middle of his performance.
Gatekeepers News reports that American Rapper, Jay-Z said temporary memory loss had befallen him on multiple occasions while performing.
He disclosed this during his appearance on the first episode of the fourth season of HBO’s The Shop: Uninterrupted series with Lebron James.
The rapper said, “In the beginning, I used to get on the stage and just forget all my lyrics.”
The confession which may sound odd to some is not entirely unusual. Although many rappers write their own lyrics, they’ve, however, been victims of this momentary lapse in memory several times.
Similarly, Wayne, the Young Money superstar has also admitted to forgetting his lyrics quite often for the same reason as Jay-Z’s – both of them don’t write their lyrics down.
Gatekeepers News gathered that in the past, the two rappers stated that they don’t actually write out their lyrics but rather retain them mentally and then record.
In 2003, Jay-Z during an interview said, “I think about what I’m going to say…I think about what I’m going to do but it’s just never pen to paper. I think it through,” which is poetic in itself.
