JUST IN: Omoyele Sowore “Shot” In Abuja

Journalist and Activist Omoyele Sowore has been “shot” in Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital.

Gatekeepers News reports that Journalist and the convener of #RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore, has been reportedly shot by a police officer in Abuja with a tear gas cannister. .

The incident took place at the Unity Fountain, Abuja.

Omoyele Sowore confirmed this on his official Twitter page, he said:

“Just been shot by a police officer, ACP Atine at the Unity Fountain in Abuja. #RevolutionNow Let the struggle continue even if they take my life! #BuhariMustGo.”

Sowore was speaking with a detachment of police officers who were at the unity fountain when a female police officer said to be an ACP “shot” at the crowd.

Sowore, is a Nigerian human rights activist, pro-democracy campaigner and founder of an online news agency Sahara Reporters. He was the candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 Presidential election.

Sowore came a distant fifth with 33,953 votes ahead of other candidates like Fela Durotoye of the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN), who polled 16,779, and Kingsley Moghalu of the Young Democratic Party (YPP), who garnered 21,886 votes.

In August 2019, three months into the life of the new administration, Sowore called for a protest tagged #RevolutionNow. He was arrested by the Department of Security Services (DSS) on the eve of the protest and detained for several weeks before he was charged to court for alleged treason. He is currently being tried for this offence in Abuja.
