NGO Applauds FG For Creating Senior Citizens’ Centre

A Non-Governmental Organisation has commended the federal government for creating senior citizens’ centre in the country.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Founder of Senior Citizens Care Foundation, Aare Jide Taiwo, has applauded the federal government for the creation of the National Citizens Centre and urged the state government to follow suit at the state level.

According to the Presidency, “the National Senior Citizens Centre was Passed into law as the National Senior Citizens Centre Act, 2017 to cater for the needs of senior citizens (70 and above) in the country.”

Taiwo during a press statement to mark the 2021 International Elders Abuse Awareness Day, said this was proof that government listens to the requests of the aged.

He stated: “As the Executive Director of Alake of Egbaland Free Medi-Care Initiative for the Elderly, I want to use the International Elders Abuse Awareness Day to request that state governments should follow the recommendations of the Federal Government by establishing senior Citizens Centres at state levels.

“I also urge the authorities to allow professionals and experienced individuals to run the affairs of the centres.”

Taiwo also appreciated stakeholders in the industry of care for the elderly for making senior citizens centres a reality in Nigeria.
