Britney Spears Asks Judge To End Her Conservatorship

Britney Spears has pleaded for an end to her conservatorship.

Gatekeepers News reports that Britney Spears has appeared before a Los Angeles Superior Court judge via a remote connection to seek for the end of her long-running conservatorship.

The pop star’s life has been ruled by a typical court-dictated legal arrangement that removes practically all autonomy from her life for over a decade.

She has remained mostly quiet on the subject until she made her public appearance on Wednesday.

According to observers on the scene, Spears was sternly open and outspoken about her situation.

Spears said, “I feel ganged up on, I feel bullied and I feel left out and alone… And I’m tired of feeling alone.”

She narrated parts of her life that had been unknown. According to her, she is being exploited and she can’t sleep because she is depressed and cries every day.

The music star recalled an incident where she didn’t want to do an additional run of shows in Las Vegas. She noted that she felt relieved when her handlers said she didn’t need to continue the shows, but suspected there would be consequences.

Days later, Spears stated that her therapist told her that he heard she was being uncooperative, adding that she was taken off her regular meds and put on a lithium regimen.

The Popstar also disclosed that she wanted to have another child, but has been forced to keep an IUD in place.

Spears throughout her statement reminded the judge that it was her work that was financially supporting the people controlling her (her father, Jamie Spears).

She said, “All I want is to own my money and for this to end.”

She noted that the plea might be the final public say on the matter, as she would continue pursuing the case through

Spear in a statement by her lawyer, Samuel Ingham III, said that this might be the final public plea, adding that all she wanted was for the public to hear and suggested that proceedings from now on be sealed.

Her father, Jamie Spears, who has been in charge of Spears’ conservatorship, through his lawyer said he was sorry to see his daughter in so much pain, adding that he misses her and loves her very much.

The hearing, however, ended without a resolution.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny described Spears’ remarks as “courageous” and advised her to file a formal petition asking for the conservatorship to end. Penny said she could only render a decision after this.

Spears before Wednesday had reignited interest in her story and the wider #FreeBritney movement after a recent New York Times and FX documentary, ‘Framing Britney Spears’, she has earlier shied away from public comment but did share some thoughts on social media.

She wrote in an Instagram caption in March, “I didn’t watch the documentary but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in… I cried for two weeks and well… I still cry sometimes !!!!”

On Tuesday, The New York Times, while citing recently obtained confidential court records, reported that Spears has been trying to fight her conservatorship for years.

In 2016, a court investigator wrote “She articulated she feels the conservatorship has become an oppressive and controlling tool against her.” According to the investigator’s account of the conversation, Spears said the system had “too much control… Too, too much!”

The investigator wrote, “Ms. Spears informed the investigator that she wanted the conservatorship terminated as soon as possible. “She is ‘sick of being taken advantage of’ and she said she is the one working and earning her money but everyone around her is on her payroll.”

“In 2019, Ms. Spears told the court that she had felt forced by the conservatorship into a stay at a mental health facility and to perform against her will.”

In 2008, her father, Jamie Spears gained control of all aspects of her life after she publicly struggled with her mental health. Jamie took control of everything from her performances to her finances, to her relationships with her two now-teenage sons.

The singer’s fans under the campaign of #FreeBritney began to question the ethics and legality of the arrangement.

All through this period, the pop star continued working by putting out platinum-selling albums, doing TV gigs, and mounting a hugely successful four-year residency in Las Vegas. She had no control over the financial arrangements of any of these projects.

In 2020, Spears in a court filing asked the court to suspend her father from his role as conservator and refused to perform if he remained in charge of her career.

Jamie as a result of this hired a wealth-management company that became a co-conservator for her finances, but he presently remains the main conservator for all other aspects of Spears’ life.
