Three finalists have emerged as the battle gets tougher for one person to be crowned the season 6 Nigerian Idol.
Gatekeepers News reports that the eviction of Comfort Alalade on Sunday paved the way for the three finalists; Francis, Akunna, and Kingdom to continue the race.
Comfort’s performance at the 13th episode (when she performed Bob Marley’s ‘Could You Be Loved’ and also did a vocal cover of ‘Natural Woman’, a song by Carole King) was not enough for the audience to keep her in the race.
It is believed that the judges’ comments also had an influence on the audiences’ vote.
The judges are Nigerian artiste, Sheyi Shay; ace Disc Jockey, D.J Sose and Nigerian entertainment industry frontline entrepreneur, Obi Asika and guest judge, Cobham Asuquo who joined them on Sunday to encourage and critique the contestants.
The three finalists were tasked to perform two songs; the first being a Nigeria cover (Naija hit) and the second a top song on the Billboard chart.
Kingdom opened the stage, performing ‘Iyawo Mi’ by Timi Dakolo, Nigeria vocalist, and concluded with ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ by Bee Gees, a British music trio.
Francis Atela performed ‘Pray for Me’ by Dare Art Alade, Nigerian singer, as summed his performance for the night with Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’.
While Akunna performed ‘Johnny’ by Yemi Alade, but couldn’t impress the judges and guest judge, Cobhams who said she gave a weak start to the delivery of the hit song.
Although, she tried to bounce back with the rendition ‘Only Girl (In the World)’ by Rihanna, Barbadian singer, but still failed to impress the seasoned vocalist.
Gatekeepers News reports that at least one of the three finalists will be evicted on Sunday.
