Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has provisionally suspended Blessing Okagbare.
Gatekeepers News reports that Nigerian Blessing Okagbare has been suspended from further contesting in the Tokyo Olympics by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) on Saturday.
AIU announced Okagbare’s suspension after the athlete tested positive for Human Growth Hormone.
Growth Hormone is a non-specified substance on the 2021 World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)
Prohibited List and a provisional suspension is mandatory following an adverse analytical finding for such substance under the WADA.
On July 19, the AIU collected the sample from the Nigerian athlete during an out-of-competition test.
The WADA-accredited laboratory that analysed the sample notified the AIU of the adverse analytical finding at mid-day Central European Time on Friday, July 30.
Okagbare who was scheduled to participate in the semi-finals of the women’s 100m on Saturday evening, was notified of the adverse analytical finding and her provisional suspension on Saturday morning in Tokyo.
However, the AIU refused to make any further comment on the matter at the time the press release was issued.
