National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has refused to sign a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) tendered by the Federal Government of Nigeria to end the strike action across the country.

Gatekeepers News reports that NARD President, Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi said he refused to assent to the MoU due to a “clause” in it.

The MoU has been signed by some unions, including the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and the Medical and Dental Consultants of Nigeria, according to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige who spoke with reporters after the meeting.

The Minister states that the issues of ‘no work, no pay’ was however not discussed at the meeting, noting that all parties at the meeting agreed to an out-of-court settlement.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Federal Government had dragged the striking doctors before the National Industrial Court, asking it to mandate the doctors to return to work.
