US Open: Djokovic Sets Up Final With Medvedev

World number one Novak Djokovic has set up a US Open final against Daniil Medvedev.

Gatekeepers News reports that Djokovic has set his Grand Slam calendar on track by defeating Alexander Zverev in a gruelling five-setter to set up a US Open final against Daniil Medvedev.

Earlier, Russian second seed Medvedev kept his hopes of a first major title after a 6-4 7-5 6-2 win over Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Serbian Djokovic then recovered from falling a set behind to win 4-6 6-2 6-4 4-6 6-2.

He now has the chance to win a record 21st men’s Grand Slam singles title as his victory against Medvedev on Sunday at Flushing Meadows would move the Serbian clear of the 20 majors won by Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

The victory will also see him become the first man to win all four majors in the same year since Rod Laver in 1969.

Djokovic said, “There’s only one match left, all in, let’s do it. I’m going to put my heart and my soul and my body and my head into that one.

“I am going to treat the next match like it is the last match in my career.”

Djokovic hit straight back to bring up match point on Zverev’s serve and sealed his place in the final when his opponent found the net after three hours and 33 minutes of tennis.

After the match, the three-time US Open champion said, “Thank you, the atmosphere was amazing – the best atmosphere of the tournament so far.

“These are the moments we live for, the unique opportunities we dream of every day when we wake up and are trying to find the motivation to go out and do the same things over again.”
