Former Minister of Aviation, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode, has joined the APC, after he had earlier faulted claims that he defected to Nigeria’s ruling party.
Gatekeepers News reports that the former Minister of Aviation, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) after he had earlier faulted claims that he defected to the ruling party.
In a series of tweets on December 15, 2019, he insisted that he remained a staunch member of the opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
He described the rumour of his defection as “false and insulting,” adding that it was nothing but fake news.
Fani-Kayode further asked those sponsoring the rumour to bury their heads in shame, saying he would “rather die” than join “a filthy, rat-infested sinking ship” like the APC.
He accused the ruling party of failing to protect the nation and its people, as well as faulted the government’s anti-corruption war.
The former minister stressed that he stood for light and truth, saying there couldn’t be any union between light and darkness.
“The suggestion that I joined the APC is false and insulting. Those that are peddling this fake news should bury their heads in shame. With what we have witnessed I would rather die than join a filthy, rat-infested sinking ship like the Almajiri Peoples Congress (APC),” Fani-Kayode tweeted at the time.
“Those that claim that I have joined them & that seek to link my good name to such a bloodthirsty, blood-lusting, accursed political association of Boko Haramists, Fulani herdsmen, genocidal maniacs, ethnic cleansers, mass murderers, ethnic supremacists, religious bigots, cow-lovers and corrupt treasury looters that have brought nothing but death, division, misery, poverty, incompetence, shame and destruction to our nation and our people will burn in hell forever!
“I am committed to opposing the APC and those that are in their ranks for the rest of my natural life and I will NEVER join them no matter what! They are nothing but darkness whilst I stand for the light of God and truth: there can be NO fellowship between light and darkness.”
However, he took a sharp U-turn on Thursday, September 16, 2021, when he formally joined the APC—the same party he had demonised in the past and vowed to never join.
In an interview with State House Correspondents on Thursday, Fani-Kayode claimed that “the spirit of God” led him to join the ruling party. He added that he was committed to the unity of Nigeria and that he was against anything that would cause the disintegration of the country.
The former aviation minister was presented to President Muhammadu Buhari by the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the APC, and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
