Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Simon Asamber Lough has made history as he becomes the first-ever serving Nigeria Police officer to be conferred with the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in the country.
Gatekeepers News reports that ACP Lough is currently serving at the Force Legal Department of the Nigeria Police, Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Born in Benue, Lough, a classic son of Tiv nation was elevated alongside 71 other lawyers (including 10 academics and 62 advocates), by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) after its 149th plenary session on October 21, 2021.
He was one of the 61 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSP) promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in March during the 26th Plenary Meeting of the Police Service Commission (PSC) presided over by the then Chairman of the Commission, Retired Inspector-General of Police Mike Okiro.
The achievement of ACP Lough who has represented the Police Force as a prosecution counsel in many high-profile cases has singled him out as a diligent agitator for justice and a strong upholder of human rights.
Similarly, 52-year-old Lough’s elevation is also a boost to the dented image of the Force as it is would serve as a motivation for more lawyer-cops to strive.
Gatekeepers News reports that ACP Lough and other new SANs will be sworn in on December 8, 2021, by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad, at the Supreme Court of Nigeria Complex.
