Nigerian model and ex-beauty queen, Agbani Darego on Tuesday recalled the moment she was crowned Miss World, 20 years after.
Gatekeepers News reports that Agbani Darego shared a video clip of her victory on her Instagram page, with the caption; “20 years today! Forever thankful for the experience @missworld.”
Darego became the first indigenous African to win the Miss World beauty pageant in November 2001, just a few months after she was crowned the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria.
She also emerged as the first Nigerian to be among the top 10 semi-finalists, finishing seventh overall in Miss Universe pageantry.
Lagos State Council of Chiefs honoured Darego with a chieftaincy title following her success at the Miss World competition. This, made her one of the youngest chiefs in Nigeria at that time.
