The Nigerian Senate has granted States the powers to generate electricity.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Senate approved the clause during the constitution amendment plenary session.

The Bill seeks to Alter the Provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to allow States Generate, Transmit and Distribute Electricity in Area covered by the National Grid; and for Related Matters.

90 senators voted in support, the bill has been passed.
