The Nigerian Senate has granted the Local Government Area autonomy.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Clause was passed during the Constitution amendment plenary session.
Out of 94 senators present, 92 voted in support while 2 voted against it.
88 voted for the local government administrative autonomy, while 2 voted against it.
The Bill seeks to alter the Constitution to repeal the state joint local government account and provide for a special account where all allocations due to the local government councils, from the Federation account and state government shall be paid.
