Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has been applauded for standing by the law despite the clash between leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) amid the forthcoming National Convention.

Gatekeepers News reports that a socio-professional organisation, “Gov Yahaya Bello Lawyers Volunteer Campaign Forum”, on Tuesday hailed the Kogi Governor for appealing to contending actors to play the game of politics by extant rules.

“The 2022 Electoral Act as provided by section 82, subsection 3 must be followed to the later,” the group, which has national outreach across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, said in a statement jointly signed by its National Coordinator, Barr. Mrs Chilaka Igidi, and the six zonal coordinators.

The forum also supported President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent directive which mandated Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker Committee and Extra-ordinary Convention Committee (CCECC) to conduct the March 26 APC National Convention.

Gov Yahaya Bello Lawyers Volunteer Campaign Forum, while dishing out advice on the planned convention and primaries, urged the party to play the game of politics by the rules.

The group vowed to head to court if there is a clear abuse of the Electoral Act and the Constitution by the leadership of the APC.

It further charged the party to abide by the constitution by allowing every eligible Nigerian, irrespective of his or her geopolitical zone, to exercise the right to contest the position of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 2023.
