Manchester United’s fans have urged the world’s richest man Elon Musk to buy Manchester United instead of Twitter.
Gatekeepers News earlier reported that the Chief Executive Officer of Tesla and Space X who has a net worth of around $265billion (£200bn), has submitted a bid in the region of $41billion (£31bn) to buy one of the global tech giant, Twitter.
Although the 50-year-old has admitted he is ‘not sure’ his Twitter takeover bid will be successful, United fans have, therefore, pleaded with him to use his fortune to buy out the club from the Glazer family, instead.
Dozens of United fans have today (Friday) descended on the club’s Carrington training ground to protest against the Glazer family’s ownership, amid yet another season of failure on the pitch.
Banners held by protesters outside the gates to the complex read “Glazers out” and “Disgrace – Not fit to wear the shirt”, with United beefing up security in anticipation and calling in the police.
Fans lit red smoke flares as they marched on the gates of Carrington before holding up the banners as security guards watched closely.
Today’s lunchtime demonstration appears to be a precursor to a larger anti-Glazer protest planned for Old Trafford ahead of the Premier League match with Norwich City on Saturday.
The American owners accrued United in 2005 in a heavily leveraged deal, piling enormous debt onto the club. In recent years, United have stagnated by not winning the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 and are now about to complete the fifth season with no trophy.
The Glazers earlier promised to invest both on and off the field, and set up a fan-sharing scheme to give supporters voting rights on the board.
However, none of the promises have been fulfilled, as the club is currently lingering in a lowly seventh place in the Premier League, having been knocked out of every other competition.
Most fans want to see the club sold, and many have now taken to social media to plead with Musk to buy it.
