Emefiele was first appointed to head the apex bank in 2014. He was reappointed in 2019 for another period of five years by Buhari owing to his performance and achievement.
He is the only person that has served two terms as CBN Governor. Reappointed for a second term in 2019, Emefiele is expected to serve till 2024.
The 60-year-old economist has reached the retirement age and may decide to resign his position as the CBN Governor for his Presidential ambition.
As of the time of filing this report, Emefiele is still discharging his duties as the governor of the apex bank. He has not been sacked nor has he resigned.
