A student of the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) in Lagos has reportedly been shot dead yesterday
Gatekeepers News reports that Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this on Friday.
The deceased is identified as Bello Akerodele Adisa, an HND II student of Art and Design with the MATRICULATION number, F/HD/21/3320024 from the faculty of Art and was shot in the head in front of the Art Complex at about 8pm
SP Hundeyin said the Lagos police command has begun investigations to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
“He was shot in the head. The shell of the bullet was found. The body has been recovered and taken to the morgue.”
The final year student’s death is the latest in a series of tragedies that has struck tertiary institutions over the past months.
Oke Obi-Enadhuze, a fresh graduate of computer science at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) in Ogun was shot dead in October 2022.
Austin Izu, a 400-level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), was shot dead in June 2021.
These cases question the safety of students in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
