Nigerian Military, on Friday, assured residents of Jere Local Government Area of Borno State and environs of their safety following the construction of a new camp in Gongulon Village for surrendered Boko Haram terrorists.

Gatekeepers News reports that Gongulon village to Koshebe, where at least forty rice farmers were gruesomely murdered by Boko Haram terrorists in November 2020, is only 40 minutes drive and that has raised apprehension amongst some residents

During a press conference in Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital, the Military said there was no cause for alarm assuring that all relevant security measures were considered before the approval of situating the new camp in Gongulon.

Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) North East, Major General Christopher Musa said the Military wouldn’t have settled for a location of the new camp that would pose a security threat to residents.

“We looked at areas where the facility will be properly defended before arriving at the decision.

“We took all the necessary measures to ensure that we can give it the best kind of support,security-wise and where the government is able to provide the necessary management and administrative requirements to the surrendered insurgents.

“We assure the public that the location of the facility will be safe and there’s no need to fear.

“All measures have been considered before the place was selected, we wouldn’t have picked anywhere that would give us a great security challenge,” Maj. Gen. Musa said

This is happening when the Military says it is strategically deploying its Kinetic and non-kinetic measure that has brought the current number of surrendered Boko Haram terrorists to over 81,000

The Theatre Commander assured that the Army, Airforce and other components of the theatre will sustain its war against Boko Haram terrorists and uproot them from the hiding place, stressing that the window for repentant insurgents remains open.

Amongst the achievements recorded by the military in the last month include the successful rescue of two Chibok Schoolgirls and their six children including a set of twins.  This brings to a total of 11 Chibok Schoolgirls rescued so far in 2022.

The Military also rescued 99 other abducted persons in different operations while a total of 49 Boko Haram were neutralised within the period under review.

However, nine military personnel paid the supreme price while 20 others sustained injuries in the last six weeks.
