Nigerian Born Edward Okpa Appointed Member Of Texas State Securities Board

Nigerian born Edward E. Okpa has been appointed into the prestigious 5- Member Texas State Securities Board. 

Gatekeepers News reports that Okpa was appointed to the State Securities Boad in 2021 for a term set to expire in January 2027.

The Texas State Securities Board is a Texas state agency headquartered in Austin, Texas. The Board enforces the Texas Securities Act (TEX. REV. CIV. STAT. ANN. art. 581-1) and maintains programs for enforcement, registration of securities, registration of securities dealers, investment advisers, and agents, and inspections of registered firms.

The Agency is organized into the following Divisions: Enforcement, Registration, Inspections and Compliance, General Counsel, and Staff Services.

The Board has also developed and implemented an investor education program to inform the public about the basics of investing in securities with a special emphasis on the prevention and detection of securities fraud. The agency has offices in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Lubbock, Corpus Christi, and San Antonio.

Okpa who ran for Mayor of Dallas in 2003 and was the first immigrant to run for office in Dallas within 8 years of holding American citizenship, has since not relent in his quest to serve the City of Dallas in several capacity.

Edward Opka is the principal of The OKPA Company, LLC, and has been appraising and brokering commercial real estate and consulting on international trade for many years. In addition to his business experience, his community service includes, recipient of Samuel G. Winstead Award for raising more than $1 million for Park South YMCA in 1998.

He is a member of Dallas County Appraisal Review Board, Vice Chair of one of Dallas’ oldest chambers of commerce.

He attended several trade missions with Mayor Kirk of Dallas, now US Trade Representative in President Obama administration

Edward Okpa is married to Ronke and blessed with two children. His wife is an Electrical Engineer. She is the owner and President of a management consulting company based in Dallas. He serves on the Dallas Development Fund board. He studied Real Estate Management in Nigeria also graduated from the Harvard University Graduate Real Estate Design School in 2006.
