JUST IN: Doyin Okupe Leaves EFCC Custody

Immediate past Director-General (DG) of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Doyin Okupe, said he has left the office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.

Gatekeepers News reports that Okupe disclosed this on his official Twitter account.

Gatekeepers News had earlier reported that Okupe was arrested at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

This was disclosed on Thursday morning by one of his lawyers, Tolu Babaleye.

Babaleye stated: “The information reaching me now is that Dr. Doyin Okupe has been arrested at Lagos Airport by the DSS on his way to London.”

“The reason according to the source is that he was asked to produce evidence that the Federal High Court Abuja has freed him from the case in which he was convicted and paid fine to the knowledge of the whole world and was allowed to go home.

“When will this harassment stop? Who is after Dr. Doyin Okupe? As at today, the man has no case to answer anywhere, I hereby demand that the DSS should release my Client immediately as ti’s is a violation of his freedom of movement, right to liberty and dignity of human person.

“This is unfair as the man health is fast failing!”

The DSS asked the former presidential aide to provide court processes where he paid the fine option following his money laundering conviction by the Federal High Court (FHC), Abuja.

Subsequently, he was handed over to the EFCC, with the Spokesman of the Service, Peter Afunanya, confirming Okupe “was intercepted at the instance of the EFCC”.

“I was arrested and detained @ the MM int airport, Lagos this morning 12th Jan on my way to UK for medicals yrs of my passport being withheld by the FHC Abuja.

“I hv just left the efcc office where snr officers in lagos & Abuja appologised to me for the error. OCCUPATIONAL HAZZARD abi?”
