…As Brig. Gen. V.E Emah FA Cup Competition Begins In Volks
High-flying football academy, Power of De Cross, began their quest to lift the inaugural or maiden edition of Brigadier General V. E Emah FA Cup competition on a good note, as both their U19 and U15 teams recorded or claimed emphatic victories against Eugene FC and Noble FC 3-1, 3-1 respectively in their opening matches played yesterday.
The tournament, which kick-started Thursday, March 30, at the Central Vehicle Depot, (NAOC), at Volks Barracks field, saw the Power of de Cross U19 side take Eugene FC to the cleaners 3-1 in the opening fixture of the competition.
The grassroots tournament is just in its Day 1 with over 22 teams competing for honours, and it is sponsored by God’s General Global Limited in conjunction with Oto Awori Coaches Council with a view to re-ignite local or grassroots football in the area.
Meanwhile, the second team of Power of De Cross in the competition, which is their U15 side, spared nothing to chance as they also effectively decimated or brushed aside any opposition by Noble FC, beating them 3-1.
Well-taken goals from Ola Opadisi, Uzodinma Ozichi, and Kabiru Lawal were what Power of de Cross U19 needed to tame Eugene FC before their junior team equally ran riot against Noble FC.
An obviously impressed proprietor of the club, Chidiebere Ofoedu Mitchel praised his teams for the job well done, while also reiterating their commitment and determination to win the competition.
“I want to salute my boys for the victories today.
“We have just shown our intent that we are here for serious business and there is no messing around.
“Our plan is to win and we don’t want to pretend about it.
“We have very good exciting young players, that with little luck on our side, I think we have the capacity to go all the way”, he said
Eventual champion of the competition will receive N120,000, runner-up will get N50,000, while the third place will go home with N30, 000 respectively.
There will be awards for topscorer and MVP in the competition.
