In a landmark judgment, the s*xual offences and domestic violence court in Ikeja, Lagos State, has sentenced Eze Chukwuma to life imprisonment for the defilement of his two daughters.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Lagos State Domestic & S*xual Violence Agency (DSVA), Chukwuma was prosecuted on a two-count charge bordering on defilement.
According to the prosecution team, Chukwuma committed these heinous acts between 2008 and 2017 at Agbeke street by Iyana-Era Bus Stop, Ijanikin, Lagos.
The lead prosecutor, Olufunke Adegoke, the lead prosecutor, said Chukwuma began defiling his two daughters shortly after his wife’s death.
Trial judge Abiola Soladoye ruled that the prosecution effectively proved the charges of s*xual assault against the convict. The judge cited the testimonies of prosecution witnesses and the convict’s admission during cross-examination as valid evidence.
“The defendant’s incestuous relationship with his two daughters, following the death of his wife in 2008, is senseless,” the judge said.
“The survivors informed the court that their biological father had subjected them to this abuse after their mother’s demise during childbirth.
“The oldest was nine years at the time. The children were taken to their village, and even after telling their kinsmen about their father’s acts, nothing was done.
“They returned to Lagos, and the second child eventually reported the incident to the school after her older sister ran away from home as she could no longer endure the assault.
“The defendant admitted the act and stated that he was sorry. This is also in his statement, which was admitted and marked Exhibit A.
“He is a dirty father who should be locked up for life as his conduct is disgraceful.
“The defendant is found guilty as charged, and he is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment on each of the two counts in the charge.”
DSVA added that Chukwuma’s name will be added to the Lagos state’s s*xual offenders register.
