Lagos Reopens Five Markets In Mushin

Lagos State Government has announced the reopening of five markets in the Mushin area of the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab in a statement released Friday, said the markets were temporarily shut down due to “environmental infractions, including indiscriminate waste dumping.”

The five reopened markets are Mushin main market, Ojuwoye, Awolowo, Irepodun and Daleko markets.

Wahab stated why the state government decided to temporarily close the markets, saying it was necessary.

He said, “Our decision to close the Mushin markets was rooted in the urgent need to rectify environmental malpractices that posed a threat to public health and the overall well-being of people living in the area.”

On his part, the Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos Waste Management Authority, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said authorities will rest when the state “assumed a cleaner and healthier form.”
