Residents of Ondo State, South-west Nigeria, has held an eighth-day prayer for the late former governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu.
Gatekeepers News reports that the event was held at his residence in the Owo Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday.
The Chief Press Secretary to the late governor, Richard Olatunde, who disclosed this on a Facebook page on Wednesday, stated that the prayer was attended by Akeredolu’s family, associates, political followers, and the people of Owo.
Olatunde wrote, “The eight-day prayer for the late former Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, was held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
“The prayer was held at the residence of the late Governor in Owo, his hometown. It was attended by his family, associates, political followers, and the people of Owo.
“The Akeredolu family was represented by Toyin Akeredolu, the younger sister of the late Governor.
“At the prayer service, prayers were offered for the families and followers of the late Akeredolu as well as the state and Owo town. The service was led by Rev. Canon S.B Oladimeji.
“Since his death, an outpouring of tributes from across the country continues, attesting to the purposeful and exemplary life led by Governor Akeredolu.
“The ancient town of Owo is engulfed in melancholy as the people mourn the loss of a great son of the soil, whose love for the town and the state as a whole was unparalleled.”
Gatekeepers News reports that Akeredolu died on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at the age of 67.
The acting governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was also sworn in as substantive governor on the same day.
