Binance Executive Escapes From Custody In Nigeria

Nigerian Govt Sends Interpol After Fleeing Binance Executive
Nadeem Anjarwalla, one of the two Binance executives detained in Nigeria for alleged tax evasion and other offences, has reportedly escaped from custody.

Gatekeepers News reports that Anjarwalla, a British national who also holds Kenyan citizenship, fled from the Abuja guest house where he and his colleague were being held, according to Premium Times.

The Federal Government detained two senior executives of Binance in February amidst efforts to regulate cryptocurrency exchanges and curb speculation on the naira.

The charges against Binance include non-payment of Value-Added Tax, Company Income Tax, failure to file tax returns, and complicity in aiding customers to evade taxes through its platform.

Anjarwalla was granted access to telephones and other privileges while in custody, and he is suspected to have taken advantage of this opportunity to plan his escape.

Authorities are still working to unravel the details of his escape and his intended destination to get him back into custody.

An Immigration official said that the Binance executive fled Nigeria on a Kenyan passport, and they are investigating how he obtained it, given that he had no other travel document except his British passport when he was arrested.
