Federal Government has revealed its plans to call for entries to produce a new melody of the national anthem which will be done by a Nigerian.
Gatekeepers News reports that the National Orientation Agency (NOA) made the announcement on Wednesday in Abuja.
Recall that President Tinubu signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law on May 29, thereby reinstating the former anthem “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” which was used during the early days of Nigeria’s independence.
While presenting the official version of the new national anthem, the Director General of NOA, Lanre Issa-Onilu, addressed the press to clear up any doubts about the correct lyrics of the anthem.
Issa-Onilu added, “The NOA will call for entries for the production of an authentic Nigerian melody, taking into consideration the indigenous instrumentation of the Nigerian people.”
“The effective date for the entries and the procedure will be announced through NOA channels in the coming week.”
He emphasized that the new anthem is in line with Nigeria’s ideology and it has received approval from well-wishing citizens all over the country.
