Soldier Commits Suicide At Army Camp

A soldier named Vitalis, serving under the 14 Brigade Headquarters, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s Barrack, Ohafia, Ohafia LGA of Abia State has committed suicide.

Gatekeepers News reports that the soldier was a senior non-commissioned soldier Command Sergeant Major (CSM) and was attached to the 144 Battalion’s Forward Operation Base (FOB) located at Ngwa High School, Abayi, Osisioma LGA.

The soldier who was an indigene of Okpuala in Ngor-Okpuala in Imo State, shot himself in front of the FOB gate.

The reason for the tragic incident is yet to be known at the time of filing the report as there was no suicide note.

According to sources within security agents in the State, only a discreet investigation can explain the reason why he took his life.

They added that any attempt to suggest likely reasons for his action could be prejudice to the outcome of the investigation of the leadership of the army in the state.

According to reports, there was no reported case of domestic violence or work-related disciplinary action against him by army authorities at the Battalion or 14 Brigade Headquarters respectively, before he died

The CSM suddenly disappeared without any trace for two weeks, isolating himself as several attempts to reach him by colleagues and military authorities failed.

On his return to the army camp, the soldier shoots himself to the surprise of his colleagues.

The witnesses were shocked at the incident because the deceased was supposed to retire from service in October, this year.
