Dangote Petroleum Refinery has disputed the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission’s (NUPRC) claim that it allocated 29 million barrels of crude to the refinery.
Gatekeepers News reports that Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief, Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group, said in a statement that the refinery has not received the crude supply.
“We are yet to receive these cargoes,” Chiejina said. “Aside from the term supply we bilaterally negotiated with NNPC, so far NUPRC has only facilitated the purchase of one crude cargo from a domestic producer.”
Chiejina emphasised that refineries in Nigeria should buy crude directly from local producers, as specified in the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
He accused NUPRC of failing to enforce the domestic crude supply obligation, citing “sanctity of contracts” as an excuse.
