Former Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education, Joan Onyemaechi Mrakpor, also known as Ada-Anioma, has been released by her abductors after being held captive for several days.
Gatekeepers News reports that the kidnappers had initially demanded a ransom of N1 billion, but it is unclear if the amount was paid before her release.
Mrakpor, a former member of the House of Representatives and popular cleric, was kidnapped on July 30 from her church premises in Asaba, Delta State. Tragically, a police aide and one other person lost their lives during the kidnapping, while several others were injured.
The Delta State Police Command confirmed Mrakpor’s release late Friday night, but provided no further details on the circumstances surrounding her freedom.
