Edo Govt And BEDC Partner To Provide 500,000 Metres To Residents

Edo State Government has sealed a pact with Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to provide 500,000 metres for houses in the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that this is part of efforts aimed at eliminating estimated electricity billings in the state.

State Commissioner for Mining, Energy, Oil, and Gas, Hon. Enaholo Ojiefo, disclosed this over the weekend after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with management of BEDC.

Management of DisCo was represented at the signing ceremony by Chairman of Board of Directors, Pastor Kings Akuma, and managing director/ CEO, Mr Deolu Ijose.

Ojeifo noted that the meters have also been subsidised by the Edo state government to make them affordable for residents.

The commissioner added that the meters would be made available across the three Senatorial District of the state.

He said, “Edo state government is desirous to eliminate the problem of estimated billings and it decided to embark on the metering projects.”

“The meters are covered by insurance policy. Subscribers are expected to get their meter from the very day they make payment, and within ten days. “

“Subscribers are expected to log in the payment portal  from next week. And as soon as the payment is made, the subscriber will get his or her meter.”
