Johan Rupert, chairman of luxury goods conglomerate Richemont, has reclaimed his position as Africa’s richest person, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Gatekeepers News reports that Rupert’s net worth now stands at $14.3 billion, surpassing Aliko Dangote’s $13.4 billion.
Dangote, owner of the Dangote Group, has seen his net worth decline by over $1 billion, largely due to Nigeria’s challenging macroeconomic environment and setbacks at his refinery. The Dangote Group has faced production delays, industrial issues, and the steep depreciation of the Nigerian naira.
In contrast, Rupert has gained $1.87 billion year-to-date, solidifying his position as Africa’s richest person. Dangote, previously ranked 145th globally, has dropped to 160th in the Bloomberg rankings.
