Nigeria’s Falconets on Friday morning, got defeated by Japan in the second round of 2024 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup with 2-1.
Gatekeepers News reports that Falconets fell short in the game which took place at Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Bogota, Colombia.
Olushola Shobowale scored the one goal late after Miyu Matsunaga and Maya Hijikata had scored two goals.
The team failed to deliver a winning performance like they did in their final group game when they won 4-0 against Venezuela.
Though Rofiat Imuran came close to giving Falconets the lead early in the game, Akane Okuma, Japanese goalkeeper conquered her.
Moments after, Japan got ahead with a deft finish by Matsunaga, and Hijikata cushioned the lead a few minutes into the second half.
Nigeria’s Shobowale was only able to win a goal for Nigeria during stoppage time.
